In this book I describe my impressions of the Antarctic through sketchbooks, photographs and textile art with its unique wildlife, majestic icescapes and crumbling whaling stations that have opened up a whole seam of textile art. It covers a period of 12 years and three trips. It is said that the Antarctic changes those who are lucky enough to go there, and for me it was certainly true. I became aware of the contrast between the vast expanse of white wilderness thronging with wildlife, and the rusting whaling stations where an entire species was almost wiped out. This is where my obsession with the colours and textures of rust began and has continued ever since.
